This photo by David LaChapelle, is my defining ‘The Face‘ moment, although there are many alternatives.

It was quite a shock for many people, hearing that the magazine had to stop, May 2004, due to declining sales and reduced advertising revenues, problems all magazines currently have.
For many people the magazine was something like a ‘fashion bible’. Speaking for myself, I was always looking out for the next issue, wondering what the new cover would look like. I really loved the design and the photography with people like Mario Testino, Juergen Teller, David Sims and Inez Van Lamsweerde regularly shooting for the magazine. Apart from ‘the looks’ the magazine’s team had an amazing eye for spotting new trends, and having a huge influence on youth culture.

Rumours go, that the magazine will see a re-launch this year, as an online edition to start with.
I’m praying the rumours are true, because there’s not many interesting magazines around these days, especially in the Netherlands the situation is a real drama.
