Miss Kittin (Caroline Hervé, 1973 / Grenoble, France) is a world famous and widely renown deejay and producer. Working as a solo-artist and also in various collaborations with other famous producers. Most people will surely remember the classic tracks she recorded with ‘Felix Tha Housecat‘ (Silver Screen Shower Scene) and ‘Golden Boy‘ (Rippin Kittin) and with longtime friend ‘The Hacker‘ (Frank Sinatra), with herself singing on the tracks. Tracks that soon became ‘anthems’ of the ‘electroclash‘ scene.
Miss Kittin surely is one of the first ladies of electronic music and we are extremely happy to have this chance for a short chat…
What was your first experience with electronic music?
It was New Year’s Eve 1990, in my hometown (Grenoble), with the same friends, like The Hacker. It was in the local New Wave club that invited some DJs.
Where do you get your inspiration, when you’re producing new tracks?
Everywhere. I see what comes to my mind, it can be anything.
Are you working on any new projects, besides having a heavy touring-schedule? New solo material for example?
Yes!
Do you prefer doing a dj-set or playing live, and why?
I like both. I love to Dj and to have the chance to play various music from other people for several hours. But I also started to like performing live more and more as I became more self confident, even if it’s more or less always the same songs, there’s nothing like defending your artistic vision on stage.
Can you name us some of your recent highlights?
My trip to Israel, especially visiting the city of Jerusalem.
Some of my friends are also busy as a deejay, producing and performing live, to me it seems that the lifestyle it brings, is really killing. How do you keep up with the crazy hours, having not much sleep etcetera?
I am not living this crazy Dj life. Music is not a lifestyle for me, it’s a passion. Yes it’s exhausting but I arrange my planning not to be wrecked and try to have a normal life. And I have a healthy life, not drinking or using drugs like others.
Do you feel your music has changed over the years?
Of course. I have changed myself. But I keep the same direction. Music is always the reflection of who you are at the moment that you make it.
What music / other artists do you listen to at home, when you’re on the road?
At home, recently the last album from Console on Disko B, ambient music like Bola, Prince, The Strokes, Ella Fitzgerald, Gainsbourg, a lot of things.
You’ve been very succesfull through-out your career, do you have any dreams left?
I don’t dream, I live in present time. Everything that comes is a gift. My dream would be to live like that as long as I can.
Thank’s Caroline!
