The Nederlands Film Festival’s last weekend is coming up, tonight you should support your local movie heroes and visit a cinema and a Dutch movie.

In Utrecht you can visit de Avond van de Commercial: the night of the commercial, an evening with typical Dutch commercials from back in the days till now. Guests are: Aad Kuiper, Patrick de Zeeuw, Peeter Verlegh en André van Duren.

After this “talkshow” you can probably use something less interactive. Black and white movie Stranger Than Paradise (1984) by indie filmmaker Jim Jarmusch plays tonight after the night of the commercial. Funny road movie, sit back and relax.

Some energy left?

Head over to the Off Centre underground festival for electronic music at the Melkweg. Jamie XX, Rustie and Africa Hitech are there to make this Friday a long, energetic night. By far Off Centre’s best night if you ask me.

Saturday:

Start your day with a breakfast at the Leidseplein. Eh..?

Yeah, today it’s probably fun to go there if you’re a fashionista: it’s national Glamour day, the one day of the year when you get discount in various stores if you’re subscribed to women’s lifestyle magazine Glamour. Today they organize a large breakfast with free croissants, orange juice, Starbucks coffee and champagne. All you have to do is fill in this form and be there between 08:30 and 10:00. After a good breakfast you take an early walk to the Museumplein. Skip the late queues and stop by at the Stedelijk Museum.

The Temporary Stedelijk 2 is only open till the 9th of October, so you should grab your chance to go and see ‘the Stedelijk’ today before it closes down again till 2012.

Temporary Stedelijk 2 highlights the museum’s renowned collection of modern and contemporary art and design. Selections from the collections are presented in innovative ways within the current conditions of the building. The exhibitions showcase the breadth of the museum’s collections, which include over 90,000 works of painting, sculpture, photography, film, video, works on paper, artist’s books and applied, industrial and graphic design.

Sunday:

Today you should go to the, if you ask me, special exhibition of Rembrandt & Degas in the Rijksmuseum. Although it is well known that the famous French impressionist painter Edgar Degas was inspired by Rembrandt, the exhibition will be the first actually devoted to Rembrandt’s influence on Degas. The Rijksmuseum will present a series of self-portraits of the two artists when they were young. Rarely displayed together, the Degas self-portraits originate from internationally renowned collections. One of the Degas self-portraits is particularly special, as it comes from a private collection and has never been shown before.
